Great School System

Our Collins-Maxwell Community School District offers many tremendous opportunities for students.  Our elementary uses PBIS that is dedicated to early academic intervention tools and resources. The preschool has adopted the Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards administered by the Iowa Department of Education.  The most fun and exciting addition to the elementary is a therapy dog. Our Middle/High school offers many AP classes, 1:1 technology, and averages $80,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors. Our newest SCALE, a STEM BEST program, is a new program designed to enhance student opportunities with the help of Ames-area business partners. This program will allow our students to work with other districts and develop business/industry mentor-ships. For more information on the opportunities of our school district, visit our School District page.

Visiting Maxwell

Maxwell is known for its annual Old Settlers celebration that is celebrated the first full weekend in August. Old Settlers has events and activities for people of all ages. Some examples are carnival rides, sanctioned rodeo, truck/tractor pulls, volleyball, slow-pitch softball, tug-of-war, live music from local bands, good eats and drinks all weekend long, and our very popular parade.

Maxwell Farmer's Market in the Park is a very popular even each Sunday starting in the month of May through September.

Maxwell has a rich heritage that is displayed at our local museum where you can appreciate the collectibles from the past and learn more about Maxwell history as we settled along the railroad.

Maxwell also hosts the Story County Freedom Rock at the NE corner of the Maxwell Park. This has become a growing, popular attraction, along with the Heart of Iowa Bike Trail that passes through our community.
